| Blenio Valley |
Also known as Sun Valley, Blenio is a
valley of villas, museums and delightful little towns.
The Blenio museum in Lottigna, Cà da Rivoi museum
in Olivone, the chocolate museum in Dangio, the minerals
and fossils museum in Semione and the Archivio Donetta
photo archive in Casserio, not to mention magnificent
masterpieces of Romanesque architecture, like the church
at Negrentino, mean the valley has a rich and varied cultural
offering.
Ancient customs are still kept alive in the valley, like
the parades in the military uniform of the old Napoleonic
armies. This tradition is still upheld today in the three
villages of Leontica, as part of the celebrations of the
patron saint, St. John the Baptist, in Aquila, as part
of the celebrations for Our Lady of the Rosary, and in
Ponto Valentino to celebrate the feast of Our Lady of
Mount Carmel.
The Lucomagno Pass, with its stunning vantage point looking
down over alpine pastures, and the Greina region, are
areas of enormous natural interest and the much favoured
destinations of mountain lovers.
In summer, the vast network of paths and tracks promises
unforgettable excursions; in winter, cross-country skiing
is on offer at the Campra centre and at Campo Blenio,
while those who prefer alpine skiing can head to the resorts
of Nara and Campo Blenio.
